Do non-ducted stove vent hoods work well?

by admin on May 4, 2010

Our kitchen gets smelly from cooking, so I want to install a vent hood. Do not the non-ducted models with charcoal filters work well to eliminate odors, or should I go ahead and do the duct work to vent the hood externally?

Mine works great. Just attend to the filters on a regular basis for maximum effect. Any time you make a new hole in your roof, you are prone to more chances of leaks in future, so I avoid making new holes in the roof.

those filters do eliminate odors, but if you have smoke, run a duct to the outside.

duct-less hoods do nothing but move the smoke around. the filters are useless even if you cleaned and replaced them regularly which nobody does. vent if you can but it’ll cost you out the wazoo unless your range is on an exterior wall.
