They may come in surfaces like glass, stainless or colored metal, which are nowadays very fashionable surfaces or you may prefer built in hoods, canopy hoods, choods or island chimney hoods.

Basically all devices ventilate your kitchen and get rid of  ”used” air and grease particles. Most hoods also provide lighting below, so you can easily see the food cooking. A cooker hood is effective and they are also sometimes included with oven systems.

Cooker hoods most often are installed directly above your oven by being mounted on the wall, but they can be integrated into your cabinets or installed in your ceiling also. Nowadays very popular and the most widely used style of a cooker hood is known as the canopy hood. These types are installed to hang directly over your kitchen stove.

Canopy hoods are used to absorb all the steam, the polluted air and airborne grease.

Most likely the cooker hood is installed over the cooker, but instead, you can also prefer built in cooker hoods, which can be built into the centre of the kitchen ceiling. They easily draw smoke from the entire room.

Island hoods use a chimney like structure to carry the polluted air out through your ceiling. The model island is more expensive than the other models but they are much more efficient than the other cooker hoods. They are designed to hang over a larger island kitchen design, but they are also suitable for small kitchen because it will typically be installed in the centre of the room.

The glass cooker and stainless steel come in a range of styles, with touch screen controls, halogen lights, indicator lights for grease and charcoal filter saturation.

A cooker hood is especially important for smaller apartments and enclosed areas, because it is not good to breathe the polluted air and it’s vapours. Remember to change regularly your cooker hood filters, so you can easily keep the air in your home fresher and cleaner.

Before Choosing a Cooker Hood

  • Check the size of the cooker hold (make sure to measure the appliance) whether the appliance is suitable for your kitchen.
  • The filters of the hood will need to be cleaned and replaced. Research the type of filters you are getting, because there are some filters which are very easy to clean and detach and some which are not very easy.

Keep in mind that only a quality cooker hood can handle the steam, fumes, odours and grease produced from everyday cooking. Make sure that your cooking hood keeps running as efficiently as possible; that’s why the maintenance of your extractor is also very important.

It doesn’t matter what the design of your kitchen is, you will find one that will look great in your space.
